When was the last time you really experienced your day?

I mean the kind of day where time seems to no longer exist. The kind where you forget about your never-ending “to-do list” and just soak in all of the ooey gooey goodness the day has to offer.

It’s no secret that life these days can be fast-paced and extremely demanding. If you’re not checking social media, you’re cleaning something, driving somewhere, or attending an event for that thing you said you would go to 3 months ago.

The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the… Click To Tweet

The pace at which we fly through life is excessively fast.

It begs the question… are you really living your life? Or are you just running out the clock?

If you feel like you’re running out the preverbal clock of life, then it’s time to make a change. It doesn’t have to be a big change. It can be a bite-sized piece.

Awareness is the first step towards anything and everything. Just by being aware that you want to spend more of your time soaking up life instead of skimming the surface is a great place to start.

It also helps to call on seasoned professionals in the area of “time soakage” in order to learn from the best. You can find a “soak up the moment” guru around every corner. You may even have one or two in your own home.

Children are absolute experts in the fine art of life soaking.

Have you ever watched a child eat an ice cream cone? They’ll sit down and give that ice cream cone their full attention. Nothing else in the world matters. It’s just them, the sunshine, and a scoop of heavenly frozen goodness. They feel the grass beneath their feet, the breeze kissing their cheeks, and the melted ice cream dripping down their chin. To them this is what summer feels like.

They’re in pure soak mode.

And it’s because of this that children are constantly depositing rich joyous memories into their memory bank. If you think back and remember the summers of your childhood you can probably still feel the heat of the sun, smell the faint sent of sunscreen, and hear the giggles of your childhood friends as you were up to that no good kind of summer fun.

You may have noticed how summers just aren’t the same as they were when you were a child. There’s a magic that seems to have faded away with time. The good news is that that “magic” is still here and you can access it at anytime. You know how because you were born with the ability to soak in the moments and be completely present.

You didn’t have to think about it. You just were.

And it is because you were once a child with this innate ability, that you already know how to do this. You might just need some reminding and a little bit of good ol’ fashioned practice.

There’s a reason why mediation, mindfulness and yoga are growing in popularity and becoming mainstream.

It’s because we need it.

As a collective whole we’re naturally gravitating towards the remedy for what ails us. We’re tired and raw. We’ve been weathering the storm that is modern life, with its ever advancing technology and increased stress load, long enough to know we can’t do this forever and be happy, healthy and fulfilled.

We need tools like meditation and the practice of being present to help us cope with everyday life. We need to come back to ourselves on a daily basis in order to be reminded of what’s really important.

Never forget that you were born with everything you ever needed to thrive in this life. Every answer to whatever problems you’re facing in your life can be found within you.

And a great place to start is to remember how good it felt to be a child, fully engaged and soaking up every last drop of each moment. Do that a little more everyday and the change will speak for itself.
